Colour

Colour
We started to look into color and how it used within design. We looked at the different spectrums of color, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary and how they are used with each other. This is a diagram of the three spectrums showing each color and its primary secondary or tertiary color.

We learnt about how color is used differently with print and web. RBG (red, green, blue) is what is called additive color mixing because it uses light to mix the colors for screens monitors etc RGB is what is used for anything designed for the web. CMYK is known as Subtractive color mixing as it used inks or dyes to mix the colors Cyan, Magenta and Yellow (The K stands for black in CMYK) This sort of mixing is used for print.

We also looked into the pantone colors. Pantone is a company which has logged every known color and given each one a number or name. This is known as the pantone matching system which is primarily used within print and the manufacturing of coloured paint, textiles etc.
Colour Psychology
Another thing we looked at is how different colors within design can be used for different emotions or moods. We were told that color is used to unify and to designate different moods within advertising. For example this picture below shows green would be used to symbolize health, growth and balance whereas red would be used to show passion, ambition. As shown in the picture brands and companies use color in order to communicate a mood or emotion through their logos or identity

Colour Photography

As part of us learning color and how it used we were asked to research into one color using photography. Here is a contact sheet made on Adobe Bridge. We were asked to take photos on a digital camera in and around college investigating a specific color. I was asked to investigate green and i think i managed to get a good range of different objects in the color. We created a contact sheet because it is a quick and easy way of displaying your photographs together precisely and neatly.

Colour Still Life
Below are some objects that we were asked to collect investigating the color green. We used the photography studio in college to arrange and photograph our objects. We used lights and flashes with a SLR camera to shoot out objects. We used a painted white board to lay our objects on so there is no distraction from the color of the objects in the background. I like the different tones and shades of the color that i have managed to show in my photography. This is the my final photograph of my objects. I enjoyed the process of finding and photographing one specific color. It got me thinking about how color is used and how it can presented in different situations using a variety of techniques.

Colour Collage
Here i have made a photo collage using some of my photographs i took investigating the color green. I used Photoshop to crop the images down and arrange them on the page. The red of the strawberry is there to show my understanding into the primary and secondary colors. I like the use of color in this montage and i think that i have managed to show my understanding clearly. I like the different tones and shades of the green in contrast with the bright, vibrant red.
